Over time, the surface of pine T&G flooring may naturally become distressed and dented, which makes it a popular choice for rustic cabins and farmhouse kitchen and living room floors.
These planks are easy-to-install and fit right together.
The kiln-dried southern yellow pine takes a finish very well, and can be clear-coated with polyurethane to maintain its natural bright yellow luster (2 to 3 coats are recommended with a sanding on each coat).
The pine also receives a variety of stains and finishes very well, and pine T&G flooring can be stained to resemble other premium flooring types, such as black walnut or aged oak. These boards are planed smooth, but are unsanded and unfinished. Sanding is optional, recommended but not required.
To install on concrete, furring strips must be applied first for the T&G planks to be nailed into. It is not advisable to glue T&G flooring to concrete, as it is difficult to compress the boards together for a tight flight with glue instead of nails.
These boards may be installed for outside siding/cladding provided that proper water-resistant painting, staining, or waterproofing sealing is applied. It is not recommended to install these boards on exterior decks that will be exposed to rain or other significant moisture, as the boards are untreated and will decay in the presence of moisture, especially in the tongue and groove interlock, where moisture can be trapped.
